§401.  Judiciary salaries.

     §401.  Judiciary salaries.

     (a)  The annual salary for each justice and the Administrative Director of the State Court shall be as follows:

               (1)  Chief Justice .............................................. $ 20,000.00;

               (2)  Associate Justices .................................... $ 17,000.00; and

               (3)  Administrative Director ............................. $ 12,000.00.

     (b)  Notwithstanding the provisions of this section, the annual salary of a justice with a law degree from an accredited law school and with a license to practice law in the State of Yap may be higher than those specified in subsection (a) of this section provided however, that it does not exceed $30,000.00.

          Cross-reference:  The constitutional provision on the compensation of Justices of the State Court is found in Yap Const., Art. VII, Sect. 4.  That section states:  . Compensation of Justices of the State Court shall be prescribed by law.  Their compensation shall not be decreased during their respective terms of office, except by general law applying to salaried officers of the State Government..  The statutory provisions on Justices of the State Court and assessors are found in subchapter IV of chapter 1 of this title.  The statutory provisions on the Administrative Director and other administrative matters of the Judiciary are found in subchapter VI of chapter 1 of this title.
